MegaSquirt PNP On Demand Program
Want DIYAutoTune.com to make an MSPNP for
a car not listed?
DIYAutoTune.com's tech department is going
to be developing new MSPNPs continually now. We've got a list of
applications we plan to build, so it's possible your car is already on
our to-do list. But if you have a car that's not on our to-do
list, we now have an organized program where we can make an MSPNP happen
if enough people are willing to pre-order one. We just need to
make sure the MSPNP is technically feasible and we have the right
connector for the car.
You supply the market, we'll supply the MSPNP. We call this MSPNP On
Demand. Here's an overview of the process.
-
Make sure DIYAutoTune.com has the ECU connector for your car in stock. (Check
this page if you're not sure.)
-
Find a bunch of fellow enthusiasts who are interested in an MSPNP for your car.
-
Contact DIYAutoTune.com to check if there are any technical issues with making an MSPNP for your car.
-
We'll need at least 10 pre-orders with a $300 deposit and at least one test car. It's a good idea to have a back-up test car available too.
-
Once we have the test car and the pre-orders, we'll get right to work on creating an MSPNP!
We are able to start one MSPNP On Demand
development program per month, in addition to our regularly scheduled
MSPNP development. MSPNPs already in development are not eligible for
the program.
So, what does DIYAutoTune.com need to
make this happen?
First, we will need to determine if there
are any factors about the car that would prevent an MSPNP from working,
such as needing features the MSPNP doesn't have in order to run
correctly, or a connector we can't obtain. See the
list of DIYPNP models for connectors we currently have on hand and a
partial list of what they'll fit. Right now, we can only
offer this program for cars with connectors we have in stock. There are two big things we need
from the enthusiast community (which could be a message board, car club,
racing league, etc.). We'll need a commitment to buy a minimum of ten
MSPNPs and a $300 deposit for each MSPNP. People who pre-order get
a $100 discount off the MSPNP if they order within 30 days of the MSPNP
being released. And we will need to borrow at
least one test car for development and tuning. The test car needs
to be brought to our shop in Suwanee, Georgia (just a little bit
northeast of Atlanta).
We have a few requirements for
this test car:
-
The car needs to be mechanically
sound. It must be running well, no leaks, no overheating issues, no
brakes that fail after a minute of driving. The car will need to
hold up to several hours of dyno tuning and may be taken around the
parking lot for throttle response tests.
-
The car needs to be running on the
stock ECU with no piggyback devices installed.
-
The wiring harness must be in good
shape with few if any splices and no broken connectors or other
major damage. We strongly discourage bringing in test cars where the
harness has any sort of wire tuck that involves cutting or splicing,
or electrical components relocated to places where they are subject
to unusual amounts of water, heat, dust, or debris thrown from
tires. Electrical components that are just free-hanging where they
should be bolted down are also not advised.
-
The car shouldn't have any misfires or
other signs the ignition system, wiring, etc., may not be up to
snuff.
DIYAutoTune.com reserves the right to
reject a test car for any reason. If the car is in good shape, this
shouldn't be an issue. If the first test car turns out to be a
junker, though, you may need to find us another test car. As unexpected
problems (either mechanical or scheduling) sometimes crop up, we
recommend having an alternate test car lined up in case the first test
car is unable to show up or not suitable for testing. We once had
a test car get run over by a dump truck the week before it was scheduled
to arrive. We strongly recommend a Plan B just in case.
It's possible we may also need the people
requesting the MSPNP to provide wiring diagrams or other information
about the car, particularly for cars or engines not sold in the USA or
cars sold here in very small numbers.
How does the MSPNP On Demand process
work?
Here are the steps to getting
DIYAutoTune.com to make an MSPNP for your car. The car community
will need to designate somebody (referred to here as "the
representative") to get in touch with DIYAutoTune.com and coordinate
things with the car community.
-
Have the representative contact us
with what make, model, engine, and year range you want to see an
MSPNP for.
-
DIYAutoTune.com will conduct a
feasibility study about whether an MSPNP Gen 2 can adequately run
the car, and what year range the MSPNP can fit. If the MSPNP
is for something we don't have a connector for, we will also look
into whether we can find a good source for connectors. At this
stage, we may request some items or information from the
representative, including wiring diagrams, or possibly a factory
ECU. It is possible, but unlikely, that we may need the test
car at this stage to complete the feasibility study. We may
determine that covering the whole year range will require several
MSPNPs, each of which gets its own MSPNP On Demand program that
requires its own test car and deposit. Each separate MSPNP On
Demand will be independent, requiring its own test car and
pre-orders.
-
DIYAutoTune.com will let the
representative know if an MSPNP can be made for these cars. If
it can be made, we will also provide a list of what feature set will
be available on this car. We will also calculate the price at
this stage. Base price for a Gen 2 MSPNP is $799. If the
MSPNP requires unusual parts such as an alternate trigger disc or
unusual and expensive circuits, this may increase the price above
the base. Also, we will let the representative know when we
can start the development process. Note that the development can't
really get up to speed until we have the test car at our shop.
-
The representative can share these
details with the community and sign buyers up. Once there are
people committed to buying 10 ECUs, let DIYAutoTune.com know. We'll
collect a $300 deposit per MSPNPs once we have a commitment to buy
10 MSPNPs and are ready to start working, with the deposit to be
used towards the future purchase of an MSPNP. We will also
need to have the test car brought to our shop at this point, as it
will be crucial for development.
We have a 20 MSPNP cap on pre-orders.
-
DIYAutoTune.com develops the MSPNP.
We will do our best to keep this under 2 months. If this goes
over 2 months for reasons other than a faulty test car (or the test
car not showing up at all), people who have asked for the deposit
may request and receive a refund. (The deposit is otherwise
non-refundable.) Since test car issues can postpone MSPNP
release, we strongly recommend having a back-up test car arranged.
-
The new MSPNP is officially released
and available for order on the DIYAutoTune.com website. People
who pre-ordered the MSPNP will get a $100 discount if they order
within the first 30 days of the MSPNP's official release, as well as
having the $300 deposit applied to the purchase of the MSPNP. This
discount and credit is distributed in the form of coupon codes.
